Indications of a problem
While alert hygienists and dentists will catch most problems, between visits it is up to you to keep a watch on your dental health. Some symptoms that a periodontics issue may be arising are: gums that are red, swollen, tender or bleed easily; gums pulled back from the base of the teeth; persistent bad breath, or bad taste in the mouth; permanent teeth that seem loose; any change in the feel of your bite, or fitting of dental appliances.
People who are at higher risk for these issues include; smokers, those who do not brush and floss regularly, diabetics and those taking certain types of medication. If you fit any of these categories, regular cleanings and exams may be even more important for your dental health.
